James May Visits Jay Leno’s Garage

I went to California to sell my gin to Americans and dropped in on Jay Leno. He gave me a tour of his garage and I asked the vital questions – such as: “Where can I buy the best burger in LA?”, “How fast is your 1000bhp Rolls Royce?”, “Why put a helicopter engine in a motorbike?”, “Will your jet car run on my gin?”, “Will electric cars save the internal combustion engine?” and, most importantly, “Who dusts all this stuff?”

Thanks again to @jaylenosgarage showing me around.

  1. I love both of these guys, probably my two favorite car people, but they do not need to have a show together because they’re both car nerds. You need some chaos in the mix to balance it out. Having said that, I enjoyed the video as I too consider myself a car nerd.

Going to a mecum auction is about the closest I’ll ever get to seeing anything that resembles Jays very impressive collection.

  2. I’ve noticed that this place is already set up so that when Jay moves onto the next realm all they need to do or put down some ropes and a birth and this place is a museum. All the knickknacks and pictures and do dads everywhere. I could see it as a living museum where they’re still always doing stuff he likes to do getting cars fixing them tweaking and making custom cars, etc. Why not?

  3. Jay's priceless garage is close by the runway at Bob Hope Airport – it seems quite a precarious place to house such a collection. I wonder what the plan is when he passes on? – love the guy

  4. For all the money, connections, and resources Jay has… you'd think he'd do something more than play with cars until he's done farting up our collective air with his endless self congratulation.

  5. Loving Jays knowledge of the cars specifics but also the stories behind them. I wouldn't even call this "tour" scratching the surface of the collection. I would pay a lot of money to watch a guided tour stopping at each and every 'thing' in the garage with in depth shots of every part.
