Joseph Smith founded the LDS Church and this is the story of what followed: how mormons planned to expand into the west, how other prophets rose up and polygamy took over, the tension between them and the US government, and finally, how Utah came to be. This is part two of a three part series.

What I really need to know is how this effects BYU’s chances in xc
One can easily find fault in LDS beliefs which is why so many of us have left the religion. However the earnestness of those who practice LDS beliefs is something to be admired. The beliefs and practices of the early church were sometimes abhorrent but members today are as good of citizens or neighbors as you could hope to have.
islam would have suited those poligomous men
Is this mostly an ai voice of JH
awesome video dude, cant wait for part 3…..KUTGW 👏👏👏👏
“Peacefully with treaties” lol okay

Can you do indian prime minister modi BJP is becoming more than a cult
People are worshiping him
The people of India is ready face any consequences even poverty if modi would stay as PM
I just wanna share I started watching this video on my phone. I have the Ugandan knuckles "oh no" as my notification sound. The video starts with "it started with the murder of their prophet" just then I get a notification 😂😂😂 accidtenal comedic timing
Fascinating, I still personally believe religion, all religions ( albeit hard to define some ) are the scourge of humanity. However I would concede religion seems to be a fundamental need of much of humanity and I respect peoples right to believe what they like, within the laws of our society.
As somebody who grew up in the LDS church and has lived in Utah most of my life – this video is entirely factual and a great representation of REAL Mormon history. You’d be amazed – a lot of mormons don’t even know half of these stories!
Johnny did a great job and I’ve really appreciated and enjoyed this series. Can’t wait for Part 3! Thanks Johnny for taking the time and effort to tell this story.
I can't stand religion, but I'm grateful Johnny shared all of this.
Back in the 90s, David Koresh claimed that God spoke to him as a child, telling him he was the chosen prophet to restore God’s kingdom on earth. And we all know what happened in Waco, Texas, in 1993. So, whenever you hear someone claiming to be ‘the chosen one,’ run away, dude!
Thank you. This has helped me understand who I am how I think how I feel. I whole heartedly embraced mormanism but as the vision I held for it begun to crumble so did my heart my sense of self. My daughter was born and I was lost on what to teach her. I couldn't teach her the liesI believed for so long but what was I going to teach her since I was so lost myself.? I came to grips with it all eventually and my daughter is amazing. Your series has really helped me continue my journey unraveling the tangled web of mormon thinking that I still struggle with. So I humbly thank you.
You may be one of the best teachers I’ve ever seen and I’ve only watched you on YouTube lol
OOT, Jimmer, that was the first time I heard about BYU.
Great video johnny! I never learned anything about Mormons growing up in New England myself, so this and the previous video have been very informative!
I just don't understand why the Mormon church didn't sue the government when they passed those anti-polygamy laws saying it violated their religious freedom. I'd think that was a pretty strong argument
I lost interest in the church years ago but I never lost interest in the church history its fascinating. I recommend you look up the work of.historians Dane Vogel, and John Hamer
Johny – As someone raised in the Mormon religion and having deep longstanding family ties with the Church (direct lineage to one of the 5 members held in prison with Joseph Smith on one side while a direct descendent of Thomas E.Ricks, founder of Ricks College/BYU-I on the other) and now having similar views to you regarding the shortcomings of the Church, I really loved this video. I takes a lot of courage to dig into our past and attempt to present an objective viewpoint, or at least last as much possible, regarding the Church’s history. Keep up the good work.
A "profit" with 14 Children and 40 wives and this is a credible faith? … People are whacked!
Johnny should have spent a few minutes on the genius Mormon cartesian coordinate addressing system. The town square or temple is the origin (0,0). Streets are numbered based on their distance from this center in blocks, with addresses indicating how many blocks north/south and east/west they are from the origin. For example, an address at 400 East 200 North means the location is four blocks east and two blocks north of the center point.
Non Mormons in Wyoming would sometimes joke about the southwest of the state being "behind the Zion curtain."
Christianity is the only way the only truth, don’t believe me just open the Christian Bible because no religion able to say in the beginning, God created the world
I seriously can’t believe this happened 😭Mormons were really grinding for their people fr.
The thing that really bothers me about Utah, is the complete absence of native American culture.
Ive been studying what utah is actually supposed to be like and there is nothing about the people before us.
Its a crime against humanity and sick.
One thing about utah is that they go really far to keep the real history from being known.
The curse of finding a land sparsely populated enough for you to start a society from scratch, is that whatever geography caused the sparsity will eventually force you to bow to your neighbors with more fertile lands, for they will have more sons to throw into war with you if you don't bow.
