Vista's "overly restrictive" security features were just Windows making sure programs had users permission. Annoying, but it basically made malware a thing of the past for the majority of Windows users. And if you didn't want it, you could select from four different levels of security which reduced, and at the lowest level, removed the popup security prompts.
